Henry Lee's

16 Eveleigh St, Redfern NSW 2016

Henry Lee's is a hidden cafe found inside a building which is about a five minute walk from Redfern station, or a ten minute walk from usyd or uts.

They offer a variety of savoury and sweet lunch meals, along with hot drinks ranging from hot drinks like coffee to iced drinks and tea.

Most of the seating is outside which is good for photos as there is natural lighting coming in. There is also sheltering outside, so you don't have to worry about coming here to eat if its raining.
White Lavender Hot Chocolate $7 | Red Velvet Latte $4.50

It was hard choosing the drinks since they all sounded so good but we decided to try one of their specialty lattes, the Red Velvet Latte and the White Lavender Hot Chocolate.

The red velvet latte was presented nicely, however the actual taste of it was quite plain and wasn't very sweet. For the hot chocolate, we expected there to be a rich chocolate flavour considering the price of it, but it just tasted like sweetened warm milk.

The Higgs Bacon Blues $18
For our main, we tried the Higgs Bacon Blues which a combination of bacon, hash brown, fried egg, kale, fresh heriloom tomatoes and smokey bbq aioli sauce all in a toasted milky bun.

The thick cut bacon had a great rich flavour and the fried egg was cooked perfectly with the yolk just slightly undercooked. All the flavours of the different ingredients were put together very nicely and is definitely a dish you should try if you're hungry as it is quite filling!

Kamikaze $19

We also decided to try the Kamikaze which is one of their sweeter options on the menu. The Kamikaze is warmed waffle topped with slow cooked apple, brandy and vanilla ragout, almond crumble along with a side of house maple and vanilla creme anglaise.

The dish looks amazing but what really brought it down was that the waffle was hard making it difficult to cut through and the fresh apple sour. Despite this, all the flavours of the dish were well compromised of the sweet house maple. This would definitely be a great dish if the waffle was softer and the fresh fruit was sweet.

Although, Henry Lee's does bring some quality dishes that are pleasing to the eye, the texture and flavouring of some dishes can be improved. Despite this, Henry Lee's is definitely worth a visit as the location is convenient and the food looks amazing!
